The story of Ayamas began in 1982 when it started its original plant in Kuchai Lama, Selangor as KFC Food Processing Sdn Bhd. Its primary function was to supply quality, nine-piece cut chicken and poultry based products to all Malaysian KFC outlets while remaining products from the processing plant were sold on the open market.

Ayamas was the first company in Malaysia to sell chicken and poultry-based products in an air-conditioned environment, and the first to offer an array of chicken roasters and light, chicken-based snacks.

On December 1993, the company changed its name to Ayamas Food Corporation Berhad when it became a public limited company. After a corporate restructuring exercise in 2004, Ayamas Food Corporation Bhd was renamed to Ayamas Food Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Its first convenience store was opened at Sea Park in 1988. Today, it has 27 stores nationwide under the name Kedai Ayamas. The store markets top quality halal branded chicken that has been hygienically processed and packed in the company's own processing plants.

AFCB Poultry System
Ayamas adopted a fully integrated poultry handling system, which consists a three tiered setup of Farming, Processing and Marketing.

The Farming System
The Farming System begins with the introduction of two chicken breeds - Ross from Scotland and Hubbard from France. Eggs from these breeder farms in Bangi, Alor Gajah, Linggi and Tampin are then supplied to 68 Ayamas certified contract farmers via a transit hatchery in Salak Tinggi, where they are placed under constant monitoring and quality checks.

These farmers will be raising the chickens with poultry feed supplied via Ayamas' exclusive feedmill which uses select plant-based raw materials to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals.

The Processing System
The Processing System is housed in two separate Ayamas processing plants located in Port Klang and Bukit Mertajam to ensure Halal standards are kept along the processing of the poultries.

Only live birds are allowed to be processed, first going through the pre-slaughter process of stunning the birds with a 32-volt electric current as approved by the National Fatwa Council 1988 (Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan). Slaughtering is conducted only by slaughterers approved by the Islamic Council of Selangor (Majlis Agama Islam Selangor) and the Islamic Council of Penang (Majlis Agama Islam Pulau Pinang).

Post-slaughtered birds are then checked by special Halal Checkers to ensure proper slaughtering and are dead before undergoing the subsequent process to maintain freshness and ease de-feathering procedure.

Next, the chickens are eviscerated and the internal organs and external physical appearance will be checked by specially trained workers and personnel from the Department of Veterinary Services to ascertain the absence of any diseases, failing which the chicken will be discarded.

Next the birds are chilled to between 0-4 deg C to prohibit bacterial growth, machine cut to optimise handling, packed and stored in cold rooms before being delivered to customers using customised chilled trucks.

The Marketing System
AFCB supplies fresh chickens and the further processed products to KFC restaurants, Pizza Hut restaurants, RasaMas restaurants and Kedai Ayamas convenience stores.

Dedication to Halal standards of quality has become a work culture in Ayamas. To further ensure that the above processes are strictly adhered to, we have set up a Syariah Council of our own comprising of distinguished and learned community leaders to monitor and advise the management team.

To date Ayamas products is recognized or accredited by The Department of Islamic Progress Malaysia (JAKIM), Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia (DVS) as well as ISO 9001.
